Experiments on Energy-Efficient Evaporative Cooling Systems for Poultry Farm Application in Multan (Pakistan)

Poultry are one of the most vulnerable species its kind once temperature-humidity nexus is explored. This so because broilers lack sweat glands as compared to humans and undergo panting process mitigate their latent heat (moisture produced in body) air. As a result, moisture production inside poultry house needs be maintained avoid any serious health welfare complications. Several strategies such compressor-based air-conditioning systems have been implemented worldwide attenuate stress poultry, but these not economical. Therefore, this study focuses on development low-cost environmentally friendly improved evaporative cooling (DEC, IEC, MEC) from viewpoint houses. Thermodynamic analysis was carried out for climatic conditions Multan, Pakistan. The results appreciably controlled environmental which showed that months April, May, June, decrease temperature by direct (DEC), indirect (IEC), Maisotsenko-Cycle (MEC) 7–10 °C, 5–6.5 9.5–12 respectively. In case July, August, September, DEC, MEC 5.5–7 3.5–4.5 7–7.5 addition, drop index (THI) values 3.5–9 3–7 5.5–10 respectively all months. Optimum relative humidity determined birds thereby, systems’ performance thermodynamically evaluated farms THI, temperature-humidity-velocity (THVI), thermal exposure time (ET). From analysis, it concluded system performed relatively better than others due ability dew-point achieved THI threshold limit with reasonable indexes.
